Coming Soon: Microsoft Teams Calling

Microsoft Teams Calling is the university solution to keep us connected regardless of where we work and will be replacing our Skype for Business phone system at The Ohio State University.  

The majority of CFAES is slated to begin moving to Teams Calling on November 8th and 15th, 2023 (county sites will be migrated separately).

Stay tuned for additional communications regarding the migration of your phone number from Skype for Business to Teams Calling. Please view a previously recorded live training, or visit the Administrative Resource Center (ARC) for training related resources (once there, scroll to the "Job Aids" section, then find the “Teams Calling” section).

Technology Updates for Autumn 2023

Technology is critical for instructors and students to have a successful semester. Whether your classes are in person or online, you rely on essential tools like CarmenCanvas, CarmenZoom, Wi-Fi and more. The Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) works throughout the year to continually improve these tools and support efforts to bring new tools onboard at the university. Familiarize yourself with New Quizzes in Carmen, the latest accessibility features in Zoom, and new opportunities for your students, like C4U and the Student Technology Loan Program. Learn more.

Approved eLearning Tools
We know you want the best learning experience for your students, and you might be tempted to try out free online tools or networking sites. Many free tools involve a clickthrough agreement or other statement that require you to agree to terms and conditions. Please be aware you are not legally allowed to accept these types of agreements as an employee of Ohio State. You should only be using supported and vetted tools available universitywide or through your college or department.

Third Quarter Deadline for Lifestyle Spending Account

Ohio State’s Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) reimburses employees up to $125 quarterly for eligible expenses related to health, fitness, family, emotional and social wellness. The third quarter ends September 30. Employees have until October 15 to submit reimbursement request documentation for eligible expenses incurred July 1 – September 30, 2023. Unused LSA funds do not carry over to the following quarter. Health Equity, the university’s LSA administrator, will send a reminder email to those with LSA balances.

The First Two Decades of the Olentangy River Wetland Research Park

Dr. William J. Mitsch, Professor Emeritus of the School of Environment and Natural Resources, The Ohio State University, Professor Emeritus of The Water School of Florida Gulf Coast University, and the Founding Director of the Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, The Ohio State University, will summarize the first 20 years of development of the Olentangy River Wetland Research Park (1991-2012) at the August 31 SENR Seminar Series. The fiscal, structural, and scientific developments, including patterns of succession and long-term predictions of nutrient and carbon dynamics will be discussed.

12th Annual CFAES Back 2 School Bash

Thursday, August 31st from 4:00-7:00 PM.
All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend for free. Registration will be located by the CABS bus stop on Woody Hayes Drive (look for the balloon arch), and other activities, tents, entertainment and games will be located throughout CFAES from the Fyffe Road turnaround to Coffey Road.

Applications for Staff and Manager Career Development Grants are being accepted through August 31, 2023. Eligible staff can use the grants to pay for professional development opportunities occurring between October 2023 - June 2024. September 7: Working with Multiple Generations online

September 12: Applying Your Personality Type to Build Your Leadership Skills (MBTI) online
Moving from recognizing and understanding to appreciating and effectively using differences is a challenge because we all have a natural bias for our own way of seeing things and making decisions. It can be hard to recognize our own biases, especially when they are reinforced by the cultural attitudes within which we live and work. That is what you will learn to do in this September 12th online workshop with Jeff King.
