Tai Chi for Beginners
Want to improve your physical and mental balance? Developed by Dr. Paul Lam at the Tai Chi for Health Institute, this program uses Sun style forms to improve relaxation, balance, flexibility, and arthritis pain. Classes will be held on Fridays August 18 – December 15 from 9-10 am at the Kunz-Brundige Franklin County Extension Building. Register today at go.osu.edu/FranklinCountyTaiChi.

Changes to Management of Outlook Distribution Groups

Beginning Aug. 1, Microsoft is making changes to how you manage or join Outlook distribution groups. To manage group membership of distribution groups you own or to join a group, navigate to this portal. For more details on managing distribution groups, you can access this article on Microsoft’s website.

Enrollment Window for Tuition Assistance Opens for Autumn Semester

Applications for tuition assistance benefits must be submitted each term, and the enrollment window for autumn semester closes Aug. 25. Eligible faculty and staff can apply in Workday (recommended) or with paper forms for dependent tuition assistance and faculty and staff tuition assistance. To receive dependent tuition assistance, students must have a Social Security number on file with their university student record. To add a Social Security number, use the change of record form on the Registrar’s website.

12th annual CFAES Back 2 School Bash

Thursday, August 31st from 4:00-7:00 PM.
All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend for free. Registration will be located by the CABS bus stop on Woody Hayes Drive (look for the balloon arch), and other activities, tents, entertainment and games will be located throughout CFAES from the Fyffe Road turnaround to Coffey Road.

Sign up to volunteer! There are a variety of jobs to help with including set up earlier in the day and other behind-the-scenes tasks in addition to jobs during the event. Visit this link to sign up to help. Your mailroom information is included on the signup sheet to ensure your event t-shirt is delivered to the correct location. Additional information will be shared with all volunteers in advance of the event.

CFAES Student Employment Fair

Monday, August 28 from 3-5:00 p.m. in Kottman Hall Lobby on the Columbus campus.
Any CFAES unit, faculty or staff member who is looking to hire students for AU23, SP24, or SU24 semesters is encouraged to attend or submit your positions to be promoted to students. Please fill out this short registration form to participate.

All types of student jobs are welcome: Student Assistants; Front Desk Attendants; Research Assistants; Interns; and Any other CFAES student jobs.

Not Located in Columbus or can’t attend on August 28? No Problem! The CFAES Career Development Office will still promote your open positions through additional marketing to all CFAES students on all campuses.

Staff and Manager Career Development Grants

Applications for Staff and Manager Career Development Grants are being accepted through August 31, 2023. Eligible staff can use the grants to pay for professional development opportunities occurring between October 2023 - June 2024. RAPID 5 topic of next EPN Breakfast (Sept. 12)

Join the Environmental Professionals Network (EPN), American Rivers and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission for a discussion of utilizing Ohio’s rivers to stimulate and enhance community and economic development. The discussion features RAPID 5 (Rivers and Parks Imagination Design) and the creation of the largest inter-connected park system in the United States.

August 31: The Dark Side of Leadership: How to Avoid Being a Toxic Leader online
We have all seen examples of toxic leaders, either in the media or in our personal lives. Together, let’s dig deeper and pinpoint those characteristics to further define toxic leadership. Then, we can ask ourselves how do we avoid becoming one? How may our actions effect the people around us? Join us for the August 31st online workshop to learn how to avoid being a toxic leader. September 7: Working with Multiple Generations online
How well are you managing the multi-generational workplace? Each generation has different views of how the workplace should operate, which offers businesses both opportunities and issues. By understanding the historical events that occurred during each generation, employees can gain a better understanding of generational work values and how to work together to achieve the greatest results. Join Beth Flynn, of the OSU Leadership Center for this September 7th online workshop. For more information, click here.

September 12: Applying Your Personality Type to Build Your Leadership Skills (MBTI) online
Moving from recognizing and understanding to appreciating and effectively using differences is a challenge because we all have a natural bias for our own way of seeing things and making decisions. It can be hard to recognize our own biases, especially when they are reinforced by the cultural attitudes within which we live and work. That is what you will learn to do in this September 12th online workshop with Jeff King. September 15: Problem-Solving, Teamwork and Creativity for Success
Have you ever been frustrated with the way coworkers go about completing tasks, or wonder why you problem-solve differently than those around you? Explore CFAES Open Houses hosted by academic units and help celebrate the achievements of CFAES alums at the CFAES Alumni Awards dinner.

Saturday, October 7
Join CFAES for our annual Homecoming Tailgate on the Plumb Hall lawn prior to the Maryland game, complete with a full buffet and entertainment for just $25. If you plan to enjoy your own tailgate traditions, join us for free to catch up with friends and grab a quick snack.
