Mental Health Resources for Ohio State Employees
Mental Health Awareness Month was recognized in May as part of a national movement to fight stigma, provide support, educate and advocate in support of people with mental illness and their families. Ohio State provides access to resources that help our employees and their family members with their mental health and wellness. A list of available services and programs is available on the HR website. 

June Buckeye Wellness Tip: Men’s Health Month
Throughout June, Men’s Health Month encourages boys and men to take charge of their health by engaging in healthy lifestyle behaviors. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of men. Aim to be physically active every day, eat at least 5 fruits/veggies per day and whole grains, get 7-9 hours of sleep and schedule proper screenings according to your age. This wellness tip is brought to you by university Chief Wellness Officer Bernadette Melnyk. Read more.

AgTech Innovation Hub accelerates climate-risk research

To help understand and address climate risks, the new AgTech Innovation Hub committee has selected the first five projects for funding. Awardees will explore automated agricultural drainage, advancing protection for soybean seeds, boosting plant defenses, mapping climate change perceptions across the United States and the use of artificial intelligence to help producers more easily assess crop health. Read about the projects and the beneficial new partnership between the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Nationwide and the Ohio Farm Bureau on the CFAES Knowledge Exchange website.

Microsoft Trainings

OTDI is offering training to help users become more comfortable with Microsoft 365 applications. Microsoft Academy, a virtual, instructor-led online training is scheduled for June 13-14. This training is open only to university employees and is free to attend. Attendees must register for and attend both days.

Low cost, high performance: OSC has you covered

As part of the Ohio Department of Higher Education, the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) is Ohio State’s advanced computing resource. OSC’s annual $1,000 research credit for eligible faculty offsets fees for all but the most intensive users. OSC also offers virtual computer labs and no-cost access to OSC resources for classroom use. Learn more on our website or email OSC Help Service (oschelp@osc.edu) to get started.

August 15, 2023 at the Fawcett Event Center - Columbus, OH (Bus transportation to and from the Fawcett Event Center
and the CFAES Wooster campus will be provided.)

Come explore concepts, ideas, and examples of teaching excellence and innovation for the advancement of student engagement and learning,
and the enhancement of effective pedagogy. All members of the CFAES teaching community (faculty, staff, and graduate students)
are encouraged to participate. Registration for members of the CFAES community is at no charge as this is a college-sponsored activity.

Support Cancer Research at Ohio State

Sunday, June 4 was National Cancer Survivor’s Day. Early detection and advancing treatments continue to increase the number of cancer survivors across the US. Pelotonia – a bike ride to raise money for cancer research at Ohio State – will be celebrated this year by highlighting survivor stories. These stories demonstrate the impact that research and cutting-edge treatments can have on those who are diagnosed with cancer. Watch “Stories from Survivors,” a short video about Pelotonia’s impact.

There are many ways to contribute to the cause, including volunteering, sponsoring a rider, or biking in the event (August 4-6). If you would like to donate, you can choose to contribute to a specific rider or directly to the CFAES Sustains Life Peloton.

Ohio Hunger Dialogues

The Ohio Hunger Dialogues invites all stakeholders interested in addressing hunger and food insecurity in Ohio (and bordering states) to attend this dynamic dialogue which seeks to engage attendees in conversations to share knowledge and insights; and to collaborate on best practices and solutions around the systematic issues of hunger and food insecurity in Ohio communities.

Friday, September 8th
This day will focus on research, evaluation, professional practice, and policy with an emphasis on our faculty, staff, and community audiences.

Saturday, September 9th
This day will create spaces for students, activists, and community-based practitioners to share best practices, program examples, and creative ideas.

Learn how to “flex” your behavior based on various situations. DISCflex ™ helps increase professional success by providing insight into how an individual’s behavior impacts the people around her/him. This workshop includes an on-line assessment, a report of results and a 360º view based on input from others you select to rate you.
