Growing, using and preserving herbs

Changes and Improvements Coming to Learning Tools Ahead of Autumn 2024
Between spring and summer semesters, OTDI and various tool vendors will make updates and improvements to Ohio State’s teaching and learning toolset. Explore new features in CarmenCanvas, learn about new proctoring solutions and get excited for improvements to existing tools. Learn more.

Say Goodbye to OSUwireless
Beginning Sunday, May 5 at 10 p.m., osuwireless will be retired in a phased approach by building throughout the summer on Ohio State campuses. If you have a personal device such as a smartphone that is still connected to osuwireless, switch to eduroam today by visiting go.osu.edu/Wi-Fi and selecting Connect to eduroam.  OTDI has already moved university-owned devices they manage to eduroam. Have questions? Contact the IT Service Desk.

• On Sunday, July 14, osuwireless will be removed from CFAES buildings on the Columbus campus. (Visit KB08976 for full building list(link is external).)
• On Wednesday, July 17, osuwireless will be removed from the CFAES Wooster campus and OSU Extension Offices. (Visit KB08977 for full building list(link is external).)

Plumb Hall (Columbus Campus) Parking Lot Space Closures

Beginning April 30, the southern half of the parking lot west of Plumb Hall (approximately 30 spaces) and the adjacent sidewalk will be closed for ductbank installation. Alternate parking is available in the northern half of the parking lot as well as the west side of the Animal Science parking lot. Beginning May 6, the remainder of the Plumb Hall lot (northern half) will be closed. The entire parking lot is anticipated to open mid-August.

Last chance to complete Report=Support!

The deadline to complete Report=Support!, Ohio State's annual online sexual misconduct prevention education, is April 26. Any merit-eligible employee (faculty and staff) who does not complete the assigned course by April 26 will be ineligible for annual merit increases this year.

SEEing the Possibilities

The Student Resource Center on the CFAES Wooster campus has seen positive impacts while implementing the Student Employment Experience (SEE), an OSU program designed to assist supervisors of student employees in creating a positive work environment, while providing opportunities for student employees to take part in professional development and reflection of their work. SEE offers many resources for supervisors to prepare them to be intentional participants in student employee learning.

Cultivating Understanding: Engaging with Opposing Views in Agricultural Discussions

There used to be rules of engagement that were generally accepted in written communications as well as personal interactions. But reality has shifted and now, any of us can find ourselves in the center of controversy whether it’s from anonymous trolls online or in person with someone who takes issue with things central to our very being. In this interactive talk, Janice Person, an expert in agricultural communication, will share lessons learned when she worked at Monsanto on technologies such as genetically modified organisms that some people found controversial or confusing. Using agricultural communication as an example, Janice will outline ways to approach people who hold divergent views in ways that can make conversations less stressful and even productive. We Grow Scientists

CFAES will host the second annual “We Grow Scientists” event on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 3:00-7:00 PM at Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory. This afternoon of hands-on learning and activities will showcase the many STEM fields CFAES has to offer and will include a look at Waterman facilities such as the Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex. “We Grow Scientists” is a free event open to learners of all ages looking to learn more about STEM in their community as part of the COSI Science Festival (May 1-4, 2024). Bring the whole family!

Faculty Networks Year-End Celebration
