Extension Today (with NBC4) Tai Chi for Beginners
Practicing Tai Chi is an ancient technique for people of all ages that involves moving intentionally and purposefully. "Chi" means life energy – and this practice of combining gentle movements with breathing exercises and mental focus can definitely improve your energy and overall health!

Misty Harmon, Extension educator, joins Jenny Lobb in a video for an introduction to Tai Chi, and a demonstration of a few basic moves. Check it out, and then learn more about this technique that can improve the quality of your life – both physically and mentally!

ASM Club Lawn Mower Clinic

The Agricultural Systems Management Club will be hosting their Annual Lawn Mower Clinic where they will service your walk behind lawn mower over the course of one weekend for $50. The service includes an oil change, spark plug replacement, cleaning of mower deck/pressure washing the mower, blade sharpening and cleaning of the air filters. Dates, times, and drop-off location can be found here.
 

Get Farm Stress Certified

Join us for a three-session series where you will learn about the unique stressors our farming community faces. These classes will allow for you to better understand the life of a rural farmer including their stressors, why they don't seek treatment and how to support them once they decide to come in for therapy. If you attend all three modules, you will become Farm Stress Certified. With a partnership between Extension and the College of Social Work, these courses offer 2.5 CEUs each. Registered nurses also may be able to receive credits. Classes are free thanks to a grant with the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

Celebration of Students Week - Volunteer Assistance

Join us in recognizing our students during Celebration of Students Week - April 11-15, 2022. We will have events and activities throughout the week and we are looking for volunteers to help on Tuesday, April 12th and Wednesday, April 13th in Columbus and Wooster. Both of these days provide free activities for students - help us pass out giveaway items on Tuesday or assist with therapy dogs and a planting activity on Wednesday.

The purpose of this programming is to support all students in CFAES. All events and activities will be available on a first come, first served basis. Students will be asked to sign-in when they receive giveaway items.

First Ohio 4-H SPARK EXPO to be held June 16-18

The 4-H Spark EXPO (Exploring Pathway Opportunities) is an exciting NEW opportunity for youth who have completed the eighth grade at the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year. Three days of fun and learning with activities to explore a variety of career and educational opportunities in sessions created just for SPARK EXPO attendees at Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Attendees will also get the chance to develop valuable skills, make new friends, and fuel individual growth! They’ll get the first glimpse of the premiere college and career readiness program, Ohio 4-H Pathways to the Future.

AEDE Economic Outlook and Policy Spring Webinar Series

Join our expert economists for a new webinar series as we explore what's going on in key commodity and labor markets as well as the supply chain. This new series features a different AEDE economist breaking down an interesting topic every month throughout spring.

Covid meets the supply chain: Are inflation and empty shelves Joe Biden’s fault? → The supply chain was highly likely to be vulnerable to the Covid-19 Pandemic, but around the world, governments and key supply-chain players have surprisingly been caught off guard. Rising inflation is the result and is plaguing economies around the world. The U.S. in particular has suffered from inflation rates not seen in four decades. Even with “labor shortages” and talk of a “Great Resignation,” wages have lag rising prices and living standards for large shares of Americans have declined. Professor Partridge will discuss how much of this is President Biden’s fault and provide some insights for his future political fortunes. He will further elaborate on what can be done to reverse the inflationary spiral and appraise how much longer the pain will persist?

Ohio State Plant Sciences Symposium

The Ohio State University Plant Sciences Symposium, part of the Corteva Plant Science Symposia Series, is hosting its 5th annual event with the theme “Plant Science in the Climate Change Era” on April 7th and 8th. All undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, staff, faculty, and visiting scholars from all institutions, companies, and organization world-wide are invited to participate in this virtual symposium. This Annual Conference Seeks to:

• Enhance discussions among individuals in academia
• Provide an opportunity for students to share high quality plant science research
• Promote collaborations between plant scientists at Ohio State and other universities

The Symposium will feature keynote speakers, poster and oral competition with monetary awards for graduate and undergraduate students. Student speaker abstracts are due Feb. 25th. Student posters are due March 21st. There is NO COST to attend or present, however, registration is required and may be completed at this link: https://u.osu.edu/plantsciencessymposium/registration/. Registration deadline is April 2nd.

Celebration of Research Week

The CFAES Office for Research & Graduate Education is pleased to announce the 2022 Annual Celebration of Research Week, which will be held from April 11-15, 2022, in coordination with the CFAES Annual Research Conference.

The 2022 Annual Celebration of Research Week will provide an opportunity to emphasize the many successes of the research community in CFAES. Throughout the week we will be highlighting the inaugural CFAES STARS cohort and their research via Facebook and Twitter, so if you have not already done so, please take a moment to follow us. We will also be hosting several events including:

• The 2022 Poster Competition: Attend live, in-person poster sessions taking place on Monday (in Wooster and Columbus) and Tuesday (in Columbus only), allowing poster authors an opportunity to share their research with a live audience. Learn More
• Virtual Visits with NIH and NSF give our researchers the chance to become more competitive by providing an opportunity to visit with federal program officers. This enables researchers to determine whether their basic concept is a good fit with the sponsor's mission, to seek advice concerning project design and appropriate funding track, and to better understand the peer review process. Visit with NIH | Visit with NSF 
• The Annual Research Conference Awards Ceremony will showcase several CFAES researchers who have been awarded for making outstanding contributions in their respective areas. Dr. Pierzynski will also share remarks on the CFAES Research Enterprise. Register

Registration Open for signature Earth Day event on April 20

Ohio State’s 2022 Signature Earth Day event “Time to Act on Climate Change” highlights efforts underway to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Leaders from various sectors in Ohio will address the realities of the climate crisis and encourage the audience to leverage their individual innate strengths, interests, and relationships to solve our complex climate challenges. Co-hosted by the Environmental Professionals Network (EPN), the Sustainability Institute at Ohio State, and Ohio State University Extension, and co-sponsored by the Undergraduate Student Government Sustainability Committee. Registration is free for this public in-person event at the Ohio Union’s US Bank Conference Theater in Columbus or virtually through an EPN livestream production.
