Flowing with the Camels Finished First
Kudos to Family and Consumer Sciences’ Flowing with the Camels team for finishing first in the Find Your Flow challenge sponsored by Your Plan for Health. The walking challenge, February 6-26, had 1,020 teams that entered steps, and 3,898 individuals. The Camels team had 2,026,159 total steps. Captain Alaina Niebauer congratulated team members Richard Wofford (595,461), David Smathers (501,069), Sarah Beaumont-White (352,633), Alaina Niebauer (294,660) and Peter Gillette (282,336) who scored 2,026,159 total steps. The next YP4H challenge, Travel Thru Time, will run April 3 – May 14.

National Nutrition Month®
National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March,  learn about making informed food choices and developing healthy eating and physical activity habits. Learn more.

Complete the Institutional Data Policy (IDP) Awareness Activity by April 28

Remember to complete the Institutional Data Policy (IDP) awareness activity by April 28. This short activity will teach you about the university’s institutional data and what you can do to protect it.  

Poultry Science Club SPRING Turkey Sale

The Poultry Science Club at OSU is now taking orders for their Spring Turkey Sale until March 27th. The turkeys and turkey products are supplied by Bowman & Landes, Inc., a family-owned and operated company, of Dayton, Ohio.

Turkeys will be available for pick up in the OSU Animal Sciences Building, outside of room 117 (2172 John H Herrick Dr. Columbus, OH 43210). Pick up times are as follows:

• Thursday, April 6th from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
• Friday, April 7th from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Payment can be made in the form of cash, Venmo, or check and must be paid in full at the time of pick up. We do not accept credit cards. Please note that some products are ordered according to weight range, so the final price will vary with each individual product. Selected weight ranges cannot be guaranteed. Orders can be submitted online at this link.

Celebration of Students - Volunteer Request

We are in the process of organizing final details for the events planned for 2023 Celebration of Students. Throughout the events, we are asking for help from faculty, staff and alumni to staff these events in Columbus and Wooster. If you are interested in volunteering, please follow  this link to sign up. Submit a proposal for a Student Academic Success Research Grant

Student Academic Excellence is requesting proposals for the 2023 Student Academic Success Research Grants program. Proposals are sought for research or creative arts projects that focus on improving, expanding and/or revising student success programs and services. Grants will be between $5,000 - $25,000 with typical project timelines of one to two years. The submission deadline is March 17.

CFAES DEI Workshops

New and by popular request! Follow-up debrief sessions will now be offered for all CFAES DEI workshops!
All participants in workshops will be invited to attend an optional, one-hour follow-up/debrief session one week after participating in a workshop. The unstructured, informal sessions will allow folks to ask additional questions about workshop content and share their experiences. Cultivating Change students are hosting two events in March!
Cultivating Change is a student organization supported by CFAES and the National Cultivating Change Foundation and supports LGBTQ+ students who are interested in agriculture and related sciences. The OSU chapter is hosting two events this month for Time for Change Week at Ohio State. For more information please contact Liz Blackford(.62) or Leo Taylor(.3408)

• Goat Yoga, March 28th – Two sessions: 5:30-6:30pm and 7-8pm in Animal Science Building Arena Room 111. Space is limited and registration is required. Free. Register here - goats provided by Harrison Farm. As a part of this event students will be collecting donations for PBJ Connections.
• LGBTQ+ Pride Trash Clean-up on High Street, March 31st – 2-4pm. This is a collaboration with Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW). Register here and meet at the East side of the Ohio Union. All are welcome and cleaning supplies will be provided. Dress up in pride gear or not. Please come out to support our students if you can!

It’s almost spring break! Whether you’re vacationing or not, now is the perfect time to make sure your devices are travel ready. Completing the "Getting Your Tech Ready to Travel" activity in the Cybersecurity for You (C4U) awareness platform will give you tips on securing your devices (and your personal information!) so you can have a stress-free trip.  

Advocates & Allies for Equity Workshop

Help Create a More Inclusive and  Equitable Culture at Ohio State
The Women’s Place invites man-identified staff and faculty to attend this Ally workshop and help create a more inclusive and equitable culture for women-identified colleagues and minoritized groups at Ohio State. Man-identified campus leaders, called Advocates, will lead a virtual Ally workshop on Wednesday, March 22, noon – 4pm. Man-identified participants* will learn about gender bias, evidence-based strategies to interrupt it, and ways to contribute to positive changes on Ohio State's campuses. This NSF-supported approach facilitated by The Women's Place helps create an environment where all can thrive and make their full contributions.

FFH 2023 Seed Grants - Deadline Extension

Foods for Health has extended the letter of intent deadline for its annual Seed Grant program to March 29th. Interested researchers can learn more about these funding opportunities by viewing the RFA available on the FFH website. Awards of up to $20,000 for one year and $50,000 for two years are available. Full proposals will be due April 5th, and questions can be directed to Matt Teegarden (teegarden.3@osu.edu). 

Join Us for the CFAES Research Forum & Poster Competition as part of the 2023 Celebration of Research Week

The CFAES Celebration of Research Week will take place March 27-31. Throughout the week, R&GE will highlight CFAES researchers via our social media platforms and host the 2023 Poster Competition on both the CFAES Wooster and Columbus Campuses. The festivities will wrap with an update on the CFAES research enterprise followed by the recognition of the research award winners and the poster competition winners during the Research Forum, formally known as the Annual Research Conference, which will take place on Thursday, March 30th from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center. Meet many of OSU Wooster's students, faculty, and staff at tables covered with items from their native lands, see and hear performances, and enjoy food from dozens of Countries.

Here’s a video from 8 years ago: Link to Celebration of Nations short promo video. We’re now in a venue with more space and instead of having an international restaurant bring food, people sample food from the dozens of nations at each of their tables i.e. booths. But the upbeat atmosphere remains the same.

Best Management Practice (BMP) Field Day

A day-long event at CFAES Wooster to increase awareness of Phosphorus-use efficiency. This event includes a series of presentations covering Phosphorus-related topics and a poster & demo symposium to showcase research and strategies to reduce fertilizer inputs and protect the environment. This course will be eligible for 4.5 CLM credits and CCA credit pending. Join the Office of Outreach and Engagement for the Engaged Scholarship Symposium on April 20. This symposium will highlight faculty who are co-creating scholarship with our community. Through panel discussions, participants will learn more about the innovative and impactful work of engaged scholars at Ohio State. Registration required and seating is limited.

Learn composting from the experts. Researchers, facility operators and other compost professionals share what they know and why it’s important. This two-day session on April 4th and 5th covers the science of composting, site design, management considerations and much more. It includes case studies from Ohio composters, lab activities to assess your compost and opportunities to talk with Ohio composters.
