2023 Celebration of Students

We invite you to help us ‘Come Together’ to celebrate the students of CFAES and the academic year. Please help us encourage students to participate in the following free events for CFAES students with food, giveaways, and community: Giveaway Day, Graduating Student Celebration, CFAES Olympics, and Carnival Night. Confirm Medical Plan Coverage

In mid-February, employees who cover a spouse or dependent on Ohio State's medical plan will receive an annual form — both via mail and email — to confirm other medical coverage they may have. The form is returned to Trustmark, Ohio State's claims administrator. A response is required, even if your dependent does not have other coverage. Failure to provide the information will result in delayed claim payments. Log into the Trustmark website to complete the form or ask a question.

Buckeyes Helping Buckeyes

Buckeyes in East Palestine, Ohio, and surrounding counties, need our help. Many had to evacuate following a toxic spill caused by a nearby train derailment on February 3. With lingering safety concerns, some have not been able to return to their homes, and we want to offer assistance to these alumni. You can help by supporting the Buckeyes Helping Buckeyes fund so that together we can provide necessary resources to alumni in need.

If you have been impacted by this event, you can apply for support from your caring Ohio State community. Buckeye Nation stands strong as we champion each other in good times and bad.

Join Us for the CFAES Research Forum & Poster Competition as part of the 2023 Celebration of Research Week

The CFAES Celebration of Research Week will take place March 27-31. Throughout the week, R&GE will highlight CFAES researchers via our social media platforms and host the 2023 Poster Competition on both the CFAES Wooster and Columbus Campuses. The festivities will wrap with an update on the CFAES research enterprise followed by the recognition of the research award winners and the poster competition winners during the Research Forum, formally known as the Annual Research Conference, which will take place on Thursday, March 30th from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center.

2023 Warner Grant RFP Released

Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Warner On-Farm Research Grant program, which is administered by the Agroecosystem Management Program (AMP) in CFAES. See RFP and application materials here.

The Warner grants are funded from an endowment created by Paul C. and Edna H. Warner, and provide up to $5,000 to support collaborative on-farm research that advance sustainable agriculture. Applicants need to include at least 1 farmer and 1 OSU researcher or extension educator. Typically 1-3 grants are awarded per year based on endowment income and requests.

Submit a proposal for an Engagement Grant

The Office of Outreach and Engagement is seeking proposals from faculty, and/or faculty-led teams and university staff that hold PI status, for the 2023 Engagement Grants. Grants will be awarded at a maximum amount of $20,000 to support development of impact reports for programs, performances or exhibits; development of a public policy document or impact report; development or implementation of a program, performance, exhibition or initiative based upon previous research, assessment or public input; or enhancement or expansion of a program that extends community access to the university. Proposals are due March 6.

28th Annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum

Celebrate the accomplishments of senior undergraduate student researchers at The Ohio State University as they share their work with the university community. The 28th annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum is hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry, where over 200 students will be presenting their work across 10 categories. Please join us in recognizing the exceptional work of these students.

Changing Rivers, Flooding and Warmer Temperatures Focus of Upcoming Breakfast Program

Join the Environmental Professionals Network on March 7 for “Changing Rivers: Enhancing the natural and social wellbeing of Ohio alongside more floods and warmer temperatures.” The program explores stormwater management and regional extreme rainfall events – connecting these changes to empirical research on the biotic diversity in Ohio’s streams and rivers, and on the socioeconomic health of human communities. 

Microsoft Azure Tools & Training Available for University Research

Researchers across the US have been leveraging Microsoft Azure to accelerate their time to science and science to scholarship. Microsoft Azure provides an open, flexible, global platform that supports multiple programming languages, tools, and frameworks allowing researchers to achieve faster results using the cloud. In this two-day event (March 14th and 15th) for The Ohio State University, on day one we will be diving deeper into topics ranging from Azure fundamentals to complex use cases within research and on day two kicking off a researcher skills challenge. Submit a proposal for a Student Academic Success Research Grant

Student Academic Excellence is requesting proposals for the 2023 Student Academic Success Research Grants program. Proposals are sought for research or creative arts projects that focus on improving, expanding and/or revising student success programs and services. Grants will be between $5,000 - $25,000 with typical project timelines of one to two years. The submission deadline is March 17.

Meet many of OSU Wooster's students, faculty, and staff at tables covered with items from their native lands, see and hear performances, and enjoy food from dozens of Countries.

Here’s a video from 8 years ago: Link to Celebration of Nations short promo video. We’re now in a venue with more space and instead of having an international restaurant bring food, people sample food from the dozens of nations at each of their tables i.e. booths. But the upbeat atmosphere remains the same. 

Best Management Practice (BMP) Field Day

A day-long event at CFAES Wooster to increase awareness of Phosphorus-use efficiency. This event includes a series of presentations covering Phosphorus-related topics and a poster & demo symposium to showcase research and strategies to reduce fertilizer inputs and protect the environment. This course will be eligible for 4.5 CLM credits and CCA credit pending. Register today: Ohio Compost Operator Education Course

Learn composting from the experts. Researchers, facility operators and other compost professionals share what they know and why it’s important. This two-day session on April 4th and 5th covers the science of composting, site design, management considerations and much more. It includes case studies from Ohio composters, lab activities to assess your compost and opportunities to talk with Ohio composters.
