Managing wellness during the holidays
Learn strategies to help you stay on track with your health and wellness goals.

1. Plan ahead: Make sure to pre-plan your physical activity, nutrition and down time throughout the week. 
2. Communicate: Share with your friends and family members about your commitments or goals.
3. Throw out all-or-nothing thinking: A common pitfall is thinking that health and wellness goals have to be all or nothing. A healthier mindset focuses on long-term, sustainable health.
4. Prioritize sleep: Sleep is the base when it comes to maintaining the rest of your healthy habits.  When sleep is lacking, other decisions become more challenging, not to mention the reduced energy you will have for being active. 
5. Take time to destress: For some the holidays can be stressful. Taking some time to yourself is not selfish and this type of self-care will help you treat others and yourself better.

Columbus: Northwest Stadium Parking Closes

On Jan. 2 the northwest stadium parking lot will close through summer 2024. Travel delays in the area are anticipated at that time as motorists adjust to new parking locations. Cannon Drive north of Herrick Drive remains closed.

2024 CFAES Alumni Awards Nominations Open

Do you know an alumni or friend of CFAES who has made significant contributions to the food, natural resources, or agricultural industries? Nominate them to be recognized at the 2024CFAES Alumni Awards! The nomination period closes Jan. 31, 2024. 

Help for students may be in your pantry or closet

If you are planning to clean out your closet or pantry, two Office of Student Life programs would love to accept your donations to assist Ohio State students. The Buckeye Food Alliance on-campus Food Pantry serves students with low food security and is in need of non-perishable food items. Buckeye Careers’ Clothes Closet takes donations of gently used business attire so students can look their best for jobs and interviews. Donations are tax deductible. More information is online. 

Chadwick Arboretum Buy-One, Get-One Membership Drive

Through December 8, 2023, purchase a membership to Chadwick Arboretum and give a membership to someone else at no additional cost. This Holiday 2-for-1 offer throughout November is the perfect time to truly help us grow Chadwick Arboretum’s community while allowing you to introduce your loved ones to our gardens, programs, and membership benefits, like 10% off at local garden nurseries and free entrance to hundreds of public gardens across the United States.

National Day of Racial Healing

Save the date for the 8th National Day of Racial Healing. CFAES along with University Libraries is sponsoring a day of events on January 16, 2024. 

The National Day of Racial Healing is a time to contemplate our shared values and create the blueprint together for #HowWeHeal from the effects of racism. Launched on Jan. 17, 2017, it is an opportunity to bring ALL people together in their common humanity and inspire collective action to create a more just and equitable world. This annual observance is hosted by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) and was created with and builds on the work and learnings of the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) community partners. Fundamental to this day is a clear understanding that racial healing is at the core of racial equity. This day is observed every year on the Tuesday following Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

All events will be in person at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center and streaming via Zoom. More information and registration links to follow. See below for the tentative agenda.

• 7:30-9:30 join the Environmental Professionals Network for a keynote and dialogue with Dr. Gail Meyers. Dr. Myers will present a talk, “Recognition of historical injustices in agriculture and the importance of environmental experiences for racial healing”
• 11:30-12:00 Lunch
• 12:00-1:15 Dr. Alia Dietch, Associate Professor, presenting, “The healing power of nature and public lands”
• 1:30-2:45 Kip Holley, presenting, “Cultural Humility as part of racial healing”
