CFAES by the Month: March 2023 – Lawn Mower Tune-Up from ASM Club

For the March 2023 CFAES by the Month, we will provide a tune-up service for your walk-behind lawn mower. Each year, Agricultural Systems Management Club (ASM) hosts an Annual Lawn Mower Clinic where they service walk-behind lawn mowers. The service includes an oil change, spark plug replacement, cleaning of the mower deck/pressure washing the mower, blade sharpening, and cleaning of the air filters.

Please respond to this email by Friday, March 24, indicating you would like a spot held for your mower tune-up.

The dates and times for the lawn mower clinic are as follows:
Drop-off:

Thursday, March 30th – Friday, March 31st from 7:30-9:30 AM and 4:00-6:00 PM each day.
Saturday, April 1st from 9:00-11:00 AM

Pickup:

Monday, April 3rd – Tuesday, April 4th from 7:30-9:30 AM and 4:00-6:00 PM each day

Agricultural Engineering Building (Courtyard behind the building); 590 Woody Hayes Drive Columbus, OH, 43210

Mowers should be in working condition - ASM cannot do major repairs on equipment. However, they can recommend other businesses for such work. They also ask that you please not bring any riding mowers or reel mowers. They will only service your walk-behind/push mower.

Ohio State chosen as research home for Starlab’s GWC Science Park Terrestrial Laboratory

The Ohio State University is serving as the lead partner for the first science park meant for space research. Voyager Space is hosting the terrestrial analog of the George Washington Carver (GWC) Science Park, a replica of the Starlab space station science park, that will be used for research to test missions and conduct parallel experiments on ground.

FABE Professor's Group Selected for NASA’s ECOSTRESS Science and Applications Team

ECOSTRESS, a part of the International Space Station

FABE Assistant Professor, Dr. Darren Drewry, and his team were awarded membership into NASA’s ECOSTRESS for their project, “Remotely Sensing Crop Stress in the U.S. Corn Belt.” This project is designed to refine and develop new techniques to remotely sense crop water stress in the United States Corn Belt.

Ohio State Students win Gold Medal at 2022 iGem Competition

The Ohio State iGem team attended the iGen (Internaional Genetically Engineered Machine) 2022 Grand Jamboree in Paris, France and received a gold medal for the third year in a row. FABE students Angela Szilvas and Satvik Kethireddy were a part of the student team.

CSM Majors to Start New Club and Support Growing Community

Association of Women in Construction (AWIC)

A new club is being created by two FABE students, Izzy Reed and Erin Michaels. This new club, The Association of Women in Construction wants to bring women in construction together and have a community where they can connect with others, network with professionals, and set further foundation for other women in the industry.
